SCHOOL VISITS

I’d be delighted to visit your school, library, museum or bookstore. My presentations are interactive, hands-on events. I offer three basic formats, but every event is customized. Please message me via my contact form for more information on program options and rates.

Science is for Everyone!

Ideal for grades K-4 (45 to 60 minutes)

We’ll read Mystery Driver and have a brief question and answer period, followed by a lively physics experiment using ramps and toy cars. Kids will identify with Alice Johnson’s empowering story, and delight as they discover how much they already understand about physics and engineering.

Teachers will come away with tips and tools for using STEM books like Mystery Driver in the classroom, including a Tips Card (developed by the author and MIT Kids) and a reading list of other inspiring STEM picture books. Students will see for themselves that science truly is for everyone!

Where Motion Meets Emotion: Let Your Inner Poet Fly

Ideal for Grades 2-5 (45 to 60 minutes)

We’ll read Mystery Driver, have a brief question and answer period, and work together on a word bank exercise that helps students explore new ways to capture the motion and emotion of a story through creative word selection and illustrations.

Teachers will receive tips and tools which can be easily incorporated into lesson plans, including a handout of other compelling STEM picture books, a word bank worksheet, and additional activities to boost classroom engagement. Students will leave feeling inspired and empowered to tell their own stories.

Interactive Storytime and Q & A

Ideal for Grades PreK-2 (20 to 30 minutes)

Enjoy a lively Mystery Driver read-aloud followed by a brief question-and-answer session featuring fun props and images. Kids receive stickers, coloring pages, and a Spot the Difference activity sheet. Virtual visits available on request.

I’m also available to speak at festivals, workshops, and conferences on the themes of resilience, gender equity, and inspiring an interest in STEM topics through storytelling.
