PLAY DESERT ISLAND DISCS
You can tell a story in words, pictures—even music!
When I lived in London, I loved listening to a program on BBC Radio called Desert Island Discs. Each week a guest is asked to imagine being shipwrecked on a desert isle. They can bring along eight musical tracks, one book (plus the Complete Works of Shakespeare and a religious or philosophical text of their choice) and one luxury item. Each castaway discusses their life with the program host, and the reasons for their choices.
If I were stranded on a desert island, I’d bring:
Liz’s Playlist
- Dream On—Aerosmith
- Wish You Were Here—Pink Floyd
- Once in a Lifetime—The Talking Heads
- Attics of My Life—The Grateful Dead
- Paul Cezanne—5 Chinese Brothers
- Love Shack—The B-52s
- Commissioning a Symphony in C—Cake
- Into the Mystic—Van Morrison
Book
Me Talk Pretty One Day—David Sedaris
Luxury Item
Nespresso machine (with a lifetime supply of coffee and milk!)
What would you take to a desert island? Compose your list and share it with friends. Or send me your selections. I’d love to hear them!
